The Old Man is snoring....

Today I had an interview at the local school. It was very important to me, I hadn't received any return calls after my interviews at the other places, and I was leaning towards this district anyway. Because it was local I decided to ride my bike. One of my other car less friends had an interview at one of the other universities in town and he rode his bike. I'd look a little funky riding in a pant suit and high heels, but what ev.

Except it started to rain in the middle of my ride to the school.

After some emergency make-up repair in the bathroom (so I didn't look like Goth-Zilla), the interview went well.

But Damn. I need to get a car!

Portland: The Promised Land

It seems that recently all my friends have been flocking to Portland. It is a Bastien of Mid-West hippies finally breaking free from the conservative ties of the Heartland, going to the place of cheap pot, used bookstores and cappuccino. One friend is attending Reed College , another returning to Green Mecca after a stint in Asia, and a musician and his woodworking girlfriend trying to break into the art scene. In high school I idealized the Northwest. Seattle+Portland= HEAVEN. Coffee Shops, Rainy Days, the Ocean, Rain forest, Mountains. Where 20 somethings read poetry with berets caps tilted jauntily. Where the politics of liberalism moves people to be activists. Oh Holy place where land and water meet! The second coming of Christ will happen in Seattle, he'll grab his disciples from the Portland Metro area and proselytize to more heathen places like Utah, Kansas, and (GASP!) New Jersey.

But perhaps, even in Portland, people's farts still smell like rotten eggs.

PUBLISHED (maybe!)

Last night I received a request for a draft of my Interstate Oratory Speech "America's Torture by Proxy: Extraordinary Rendition" from professor George Rodman from the Brooklyn College of CUNY. They might include it in the 10th ed. of "Understanding Human Communication" published by Oxford University Press. Wahhooo! It would be incredibly amazing to be included in a speech textbook, cross your fingers for me!

Getting a REAL Job!

So you already know that the interveiw went really well on Wednesday. (It also helped that both of my interveiwers were alumni from my University.) I think that the school would be an excellent fit for me, as well as the course load. (I'm being very vague about this because I don't want the specifics to backfire on me, aka pontential employeers find blog, find out about my terrible spelling, and decide not to hire me kind of disaster). If you are the praying sort, I would appreciate prayers. I should find out the beginning/middle of this week. So cross your fingers for me! I have not had any other interveiw offers, so I kinda have all my eggs in one basket.

Also, ya'll should check out online onslaught 5 at http://oo5.blogspot.com/ I may/may not be competing in it ;)

Travels

I went White-Water Rafting with my family last week, and it was a HUGE amount of fun. My brother, Nathan, led the trip. This meant that he was the one who told when to paddle, where to turn, and how to be safe in level 4 (Pretty durn difficult rapids!). He did a fantastic job and I'm really proud of him. My parents had never gone white water rafting, and it was funny to watch their eyes as they dipped in to a huge hole (there were walls of water all around us!). The canyon lands are wonderful. So much geology, archeology, native peoples history everything!

We also have a new puppy at home. Her name is Gurley, and she is a mix of a German short hair pointer and a lab. hopefully a good hunting dog for my father! She is also very shy, and slowly getting used to having people around.

I've got one week of vacation here in K-Ville, then a week of trying to have as many hours as possible for work, and then school starts.

I also had a science teacher interview for a school by St. Louis, it went well as possible, so cross your fingers!
